Review of film “colors”-Malayalam

Review of film “colors”

The film ‘Colors’ is the first release of Dileep in 2009. The movie with a pedestrian, predictable story and unimaginative sequences fails to spread any bright colors in the minds of the viewers.

Story in brief

The movie set in a military camp at Coonnor near Ooty. The story revolves around a military doctor Lt. Colonel Dr. Rajalakshmi, her two daughters Pooja and Pinky and her father-in-law, Pushkaran Pillai. Pooja, a typical coy girl and her mother’s pet, is a school teacher. While her younger daughter Pinky is a tomboyish, bubbly girl who roams around playing pranks on the villagers and shooting her popular television programme ‘Colours’, with her constant companion and cameraman Rahul, who is already in love with her. Adventurous and bold Pinky shares a very special relation with Pooja and her grandpa.

Rajalakshmi detects a financial fraud in her military hospital in the purchase of costly medicines. She is intent on bringing the culprits before the law and consequently earns some enemies. At this juncture, Navy officer Lt. Commander Sanjaynath (Dileep) arrives, locking horns with Pinky from their first meeting. Every one feels he is the right person to control Pinky’s naughtiness, which gradually leads them into falling in love. Then there are the plans of elders to marry off Pooja to Sanjay, even when he is in love with Pinky. And the worst of the subplots is that involving the character played by Harishree Ashokan and his father in-law – a lunatic played by Cochin Haneefa, which falls well below buffoonery.

About the characters

The character of Lt. Colonel Dr. Rajalakshmi is acted by Sharanya and her two daughters Pooja as Bhama and Pinky as Roma and her father-in-law, Pushkaran Pillai as Innocent. Vinu Mohan is playing the role of Rahul, cameraman. Dileep as the naval officer Sanjaynath.

Though promoted as a Dileep flick, the entire show essentially belongs to Roma, as the lead actor appears on the scene only a few seconds before the interval, i.e., exactly an hour after the film start’s. His entry just before the interval as Sanjaynath seems rather uncomfortable with the undemanding. Roma is good at some places, but terribly bad at others. . Dileep makes a ride through his macho avatar-though not much convincingly. Vinu Mohan and Bhama under play their characters as per demands while Sharanya and Innocent are aptly cast. Harihsree Ashokan and Cochin Haneefa are terribly unbearable, left to run all around to create some half baked chuckles.

About direction and other aspects….

While the technical sides of the film are agreeable, the pointless script and unproductive direction spoil the movie. The songs ‘Kanmaniye’ and ‘Pookkalam by Suresh peter are the only relief to the spectators in the film. Raj Babu has at hand quite a messy palette with which he cooks up a repulsive piece of art in awful colors on an intolerably muddled canvas.

FILM REVIEW OF “Kadha, Samvidhanam Kunchacko”

FILM REVIEW OF “KADHA, SAMVIDHANAM: KUNCHAKO”

The sreenivasan factor really disappoints this time. Nothing much to talk about the boring movie. Absolutely wayward direction and a weak script. Presence of sreenivasan as the central character fails to save the movie. From the second day, the film is running in front of empty chairs.

About the film

The film revolves around a self-made millionaire Kunchacko (Sreenivasan), who owns a private bank, medical college, multiplex supermarket and many other private institutions. Born in a poor family, this 50-year-old bachelor became a business magnate only through cruelty and shrewdness. What he earned however, was always for his siblings. He has a large family of brothers, sisters and brother-in-laws (Ganesh, Prem Kumar, Sudhish, Sona Nair and Lakshmi Priya), who are all well-settled in life, all because of his generosity. Kunchacko never found the time to live for himself.

His brothers and sisters tried to make him a sophisticated man, but their attempts failed. Finally by the advice of the parish priest and continuous pressure from his family he decided to marry Anne Mary a soft ware engineer by profession. And their marriage was on the agreement that kunchko will written off her loan which she had taken from his bank. On the night of their marriage, the hero has a change of heart, which is quite unconvincing for the audience to digest!

About the performance

Sreenivasan as Kunchacko is his very usual self, donning the role with all his routine mannerisms. After the mega hit films udayananu tharam and kadha parayumbol, once again Meena came as the heroine of sreenivasan.  Meena as usual looking pretty         in the film. The performances of the other cast members are just average. However, it is a pleasant surprise to see forgotten actors Prem Kumar and Sudhish in full-length roles as Kunchacko’s siblings.

About the direction

This film was directed by Haridas Keshavan (known as director Haridas) .This is a film that has been made in the most conventional manner and has nothing new to offer. The director has just rambled with his own story, which begins somewhere and goes elsewhere, conveying nothing in the process. Kadha, Samvidhanam: Kunchacko altogether fails to impress.

Film review of “red chillies”

About the film

Red Chillies, Mohanlal’s first release of 2009, directed by Shaji Kailas, is nothing less than a visual treat with quirky cuts, immaculate close-ups, hard-hitting punch lines and sizzling effects. Produced by M. Ranjith under the banner of Rejaputhra Visual Arts, Red Chillies is essentially a murder mystery, revolving around a gang of nine talented Radio Jockeys, working with FM 919.1 in Kochi

Mohanlal’s character is named Omar, an NRI businessman settled in the Gulf and running this radio station in Kerala. Omar is an impeccable personality with multi-lingual talents; he can speak English, Arabic and Malayalam fluently. All his female staff are madly in love with him and he always communicates through e-mails to his female jockeys. On a New Year eve, he promises that he will reveal his love for one of them. But in a terrible twist in the plot, they are murdered one by one!

About the performance

Mohanlal was excellent in the movie. He is certainly the high point of the flick with another effortless rendering of style and substance. With his stylishly trimmed beard and hairdo, Mohanlal looks absolutely convincing to his character in the film and his way of delivering the punch line ‘Onnum Marakkilla Rama’ is a treat to watch.

Malayalam playback singer Renjini Jose made her first appearance in the silver screen through this film. Her character is named as Isabella, one of the nine radio jockeys. Thilakan as Mani Varghese, Biju Menon as Stalin, and Siddique as Police Commissioner and Vyasan, Ganesh Kumar and Vijay Kumar as the other Police Officers in the group have done justice to their roles. But the Red Chilly Girls did not make it up to the mark. They were not even close enough to Mirchi Girls in Chinthamani Kolacase.

About the direction

There are not many who can match director Shaji Kailas’ technical finesse in Malayalam, when it comes to stylish visuals! The director once again displays that he is an expert in utilizing technical device to deliver the same edge-of-the-seat kind of thrillers. Though the movie keeps us engaged for the first forty minutes, the second half, starting with Omar arriving in Kochi, tends to drag a little.

Red Chillies would have been even better, if the makers had spent more time on the script, especially the climax, which could have been a little more impressive!

Crazy Gopalan movie review

Crazy Gopalan is the latest flick from comedian actor Dileep. Its after a long break that Dileep is releasing a movie, he said he was busy with production work of Twenty-20! Anyways the much expected movie is a disaster!. I will say its “comedy @ its worst” from Dileep and Team. Crazy Gopalan is just an example of how much awkwards is the recent malayalam movies and the stories written. This movie is directed by Deepu Karunakaran and is his debut film. I am so sorry that this young chap failed to make a good start.!

What’s the movie ?

Its just another cliche story of a village grown up robber, who is good @ his heart. Gopalan is well talented in disguise and he can run away faster and faster after a robbery.  He never allows himself in the grips of policemen and its his story, about the various robbery attempts in style & disguise he has made, his feelings, life, love and many other shitty things.!

What about Direction?

Not up to mark! Deepu Karunakaran has to improve a lot….”he has miles to go before he makes it”. The disguise shots are not even up to standards of a kiddie drama.!

Performances!

You wont laugh @ dileeps comedy scenes and if one is emotion less at such scenes, then its the worst case, so Crazy Gopalan is comedy @ its worst.

‘Twenty-Twenty’ – the film produced by Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), which is currently under production will take a little more time to complete its shooting.

The film which is a star feast featuring almost all the stars from Malayalam industry was planned to get released by the Vishu season. But as per the newer schedules, the movie will only be able to restart its second schedule by March, which may force its release to the mid of May.

The first schedule which went on for 22 days had Mammootty, Suresh Gopi and many other leading stars, on the sets.

The film was intended to start its second schedule by the 11th of this month which did not materialize. The non availability of dates of Mohanlal is said to be one of the reasons for the delay in shooting schedule.

Around forty percent of the shooting of this mega film is already completed and the remaining parts need Mohanlal in most of the frames.

Buzz is that Mohanlal is more inclined to complete his Sathyan Anthikkad movie, which is a project of Aashirwad films and get it to theatres for this Vishu. So the crew is in a situation to wait until Lal agrees to be on the sets, after completing Sathyan movie.
